Reds Ready for City Test – Preseason Preview

International Champions Cup

Manchester City vs Liverpool

Thursday, July 26th
MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, USA
Kick-off at 3:05am GMT

Liverpool will take on English Premier League rivals Manchester City in New Jersey on Wednesday as Jurgen Klopp’s men, off the back of spending upwards of 150 million pounds, aim to mount a serious title challenge with the 2018/19 season fast approaching.

Manchester City vs Dortmund

Pep Guardiola’s side could only muster a measly five shots on goal in their pre-season opener as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat against German giants Borussia Dortmund. Mario Gotze’s first-half spot-kick means Man City are still seeking their first win over Dortmund having now lost two and drawn one of their three meetings. Despite fielding a second-string side for that encounter, the faithful City fans will be expecting a much better showing against one of the main contenders to claim the coveted Premier League crown.

Liverpool vs Dortmund

Liverpool will be fresh and recovered from their very own pre-season opener against Borussia Dortmund. The Reds went into half-time with a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Virgil Van Dijk header only to let it slip in the second half as American born Christian Pulisic scored from the penalty spot to level the scores before further late goals from Pulisic and Larsen sealed a second win in as many pre-season matches against one of their famous former managers. Jurgen Klopp handed a first start to summer-signing Fabinho while Naby Keita made his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt as he came off the bench to replace the Brazilian at the break.

Wednesday’s affair will see the duo face each other for the first time outside of England. Liverpool romped to a 5-1 aggregate victory in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals last season en route to their final defeat against Real Madrid. The Sky Blues have won just two of their previous nine encounters in all competitons since Jurgen Klopp took charge of the Merseysiders.
