Reds to Run Riot in PL Season Opener

2019/20 English Premier League

Liverpool vs Norwich City

Anfield, Liverpool
Friday, August 9th
Kick-off at 7pm

Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side, after narrowly missing out on the English Premier League title by just 2 points to Manchester City, will have to pick up their socks as they prepare to challenge again in 2019/20 starting with a clash in front of the Kop against newly-promoted Norwich City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Norwich make a return to the top-flight following their relegation back in 2016. The Canaries finished at the summit of the Championship last term with a whopping 94 points and will be hoping to cause a couple of upsets this time around.

They have won just one of their previous 16 opening day fixtures though, regardless of what division they have played in.

The Reds will be looking to their historical form against Norwich City – having won 10 of the last 12 meetings between them in the Premier League. Liverpool have scored a whopping 39 goals against them in this period at an average of 3.25 goals per game.

Their most recent encounter saw Klopp’s Liverpool snatch a dramatic stoppage time winner courtesy of Adam Lallana as the match ended 5-4 to the visitors, just moments after Sebastian Bassong had equalised for the home side.

Norwich manager Daniel Farke.

The last time the two teams faced off at Anfield however, back in September 2015, the match ended all square as the hosts were penned back by a Russel Martin goal after Danny Ings had put the Reds in front.

Both teams ended their respective pre-season campaigns with defeats – Liverpool were beaten by Manchester City on penalties in the season-opening Community Shield while Norwich City, under manager Daniel Farke, could only manage a 1-0 loss at home against French outfit Toulouse.

Last season’s joint Golden Boot winner Sadio Mane could be set to miss out Friday night’s clash through injury with UEFA Champions League winning goal-scorer Divock Origi tipped to lead the line alongside Salah and Firmino.
