Sebastian Vettel hoping to build momentum

2019 Formula 1 season, Round 4

Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Baku City Circuit, Baku

Sunday 28 April

Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel will hope to build some momentum in Round 4 of the 2019 Formula 1 season, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit on Sunday 28 April.

The German four-time F1 world champion finally picked up a first podium of the season when he came home in third at the Chinese Grand Prix earlier this month. However, many would argue he only claimed the position thanks to being favoured in strategy terms over young teammate Charles Leclerc.

Charles Lecler will look to continue his impressive form for Ferrari.

Vettel – and Ferrari in general – have been unable to match the speed, consistency and relentlessness of Mercedes, who have started the season with three straight 1-2 finishes – the first time that has happened since Williams achieved the feat in 1992.

If the German driver and the Scuderia are to have any shot at beating the ‘Silver Arrows’ to either of the titles this season, then the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is where they will need to turn the tide and start gaining some momentum.

World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton.

Yet Baku does not hold good memories for Vettell, as it was the circuit where he famously side-swiped Lewis Hamilton under the safety car, having incorrectly believed that the Mercedes driver had ‘brake-tested’ him.

If Vettel cannot challenge the Mercedes dominance, then perhaps his teammate Leclerc can, with the young pilot showing the ability to win Grands Prix at the Bahrain event before suffering technical issues late in the race.
