Sebastian Vettel looks for better showing in Monaco

2019 Formula 1 season, Round 6

Monaco Grand Prix

Circuit de Monaco, Monte Carlo

Sunday 26 May 2019

Sebastian Vettel will hope that Round 6 of the 2019 Formula 1 season, the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday 26 May, brings an improved showing from both him and Ferrari.

The four-time Drivers’ Championship winner has yet to claim a race victory this season and could only manage a fourth-place finish at the Spanish GP earlier in the month. This has seen Vettel drop down to fourth on the standings, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen now two points ahead of him.

The Ferraris have been way off the race pace of pack-leaders Mercedes

Vettel and Ferrari have simply been unable to get anywhere near the pace of Mercedes, with their drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas streaking away in a two-horse race for the Drivers’ title.

In fact, fighting for third against Verstappen now seems a more realistic target for Vettel, who will also need to ensure that he remains ahead of his ambitious teammate Charles Leclerc, who often shows superior race pace on Sundays.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc will hope he can shine in Monaco

Vettel has won twice at the Monaco circuit, once with Ferrari in 2017 and his maiden victory on the street circuit came with Red Bull in 2011. That triumph for the Scuderia two years ago was Ferrari’s only Monaco triumph in the last 17 editions of the famous race.
