Sergio Perez will be looking to win the Italian Grand Prix for the first time in his career when he competes in Monza.

The Red Bull Racing-RBPT came close to securing a podium finish in last year's Italian Grand Prix as he finished fifth.

Perez also finished fifth in the most recent race in the current season which was the Dutch Grand Prix on September 4.

The man nicknamed Checo couldn’t get past Carlos Sainz Jr but when the Ferrari man was handed a five-second penalty for an unsafe release, Perez knew that fifth place was his.

The Dutch Grand Prix was won by Perez's teammate Max Verstappen, while Mercedes driver George Russell and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished second and third respectively.

Looking at the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings, Verstappen remains at the top of the standings with Charles Leclerc of Ferrari placed second.

Perez, who is placed third on the standings, will move into second place on the table if Checo wins the Italian Grand Prix.

“Obviously this is a great day for the Team but it wasn’t the best day at the office for me. I struggled with tyre degradation in the first and second stints and I never quite got the balance where I wanted it to be," Perez said after the Dutch Grand Prix.

"It was a hectic race with incidents in the pit lane but I was lucky that my front wing wasn’t damaged when I drove over the wheel gun. Despite the difficulty I had, we managed to save some good points.

"There’s lots to take away from today and plenty to understand from our side so that we can come back strong in Monza.”

Red Bull Racing-RBPT are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Ferrari and Mercedes respectively.
