Sergio Perez will be eager to boost his hopes of finishing in the top two spots on the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings by winning the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Red Bull Racing-RBPT driver had a forgettable race at the last Singapore Grand Prix in 2019 as he was forced to retire due to an oil leak problem having started 15th on the grid.

Perez's poor form in the current season continued at the most recent race which was the Italian Grand Prix on September 11 as he finished sixth at the Monza Circuit.

Nicknamed Checo, Perez finished in sixth place and took the point for fastest lap after a recovery drive from the rear of the field following brake woes and an early pit stop.

The race was won by his teammate Max Verstappen with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and George Russell of Mercedes finishing second and third respectively in Italy.

Looking at the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings, Verstappen is sitting pretty at the top of the table and he is followed by Charles Leclerc of Ferrari.

Checo is still placed third on the standings and he will move into the second spot if he wins the Singapore Grand Prix and Leclerc doesn't finish in the top two places.

“I think after what happened early on in the race, that was pretty much the maximum,” Perez said when reflecting on the Italian Grand Prix,

“Unfortunately, I think I lost the positions to Lewis [Hamilton - who finished fifth] because I felt like I could have gone to the end on the hard tyre but also if we were to race until the end on the softs, we could have got him back but unfortunately the Safety Car came at the wrong time.

“Yeah, basically my front-right disc was on fire. So we boxed and then we spent a few laps with the front right disc on fire and then I had to bring it [the brake temperature] back down. So when I was on the hard [tyre], I had to massively manage the brakes to make sure that I could bring them back down.”

Red Bull Racing-RBPT are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Ferrari and Mercedes respectively.
