Novak Djokovic will go head to head with Ben Shelton in the
2023 US Open semi-final match on 8 September.
Previous round
Novak Djokovic was in his element when he defeated USA's Taylor Fritz 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals on 5 September.
His semi-final opponent, Shelton secured a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 win over his American compatriot Frances Tiafoe in a quarter-final clash on 6 September.
US Open record
Having won the US Open singles title three times, Djokovic made a record-setting 47th Grand Slam semi-final when he defeated Fitz.
The Serbian superstar has won an all-time record 23 Grand Slam men's singles titles, including a record ten Australian Open trophies.
While Shelton will be making his debut appearance in the US Open semi-finals and the 20-year-old is hoping to win his maiden singles grand slam title.
The youngster, who is ranked 47th in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), reached the 2023 Australian Open quarter-finals.
What was said
"I think that it's an advantage with my game style, playing someone who's never played me before," Shelton said about facing Djokovic in the semi-finals.
"I think that I can bring some things to the table that maybe you don't see in your normal match that you play on the ATP Tour.
"So I'm definitely going to try to bring some things to the table that are different and hopefully disruptive on Friday."
Head-to-Head record
This will be the first-ever meeting between Djokovic and Shelton in a professional tournament.
