Barcelona will be looking to stay in touch with the
La Liga leaders when Real Sociedad visit the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Sunday, September 28.
The Blaugrana maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Getafe on September 21, but they trail arch-rivals Real Madrid by two points after five rounds.
Hansi Flick's side saw their perfect record come to an end on matchday 3 after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Rayo Vallecano, while Los Blancos made it three wins from three.
Real remain the only team with a 100 per cent record in the Spanish top flight after winning their next two games, although Barca have responded in kind by dispatching Valencia (6-0) and Getafe without conceding.
Sociedad find themselves at the wrong end of the table, having failed to win any of their opening five matches and picking up just two points.
Sergio Francisco was promoted from within as a replacement for long-serving head coach Imanol Alguacil in the off-season, but his tenure has got off to a rocky start.
Francisco's reign began with successive draws against Valencia (1-1) and Espanyol (2-2), only to lose his next three games to Real Oviedo (1-0), Real Madrid (2-1) and Real Betis (3-1).
The Basque outfit were no match for the Catalan giants in the corresponding fixture last term after slipping to a heavy 4-0 defeat. However, they did manage to pull off a surprise 1-0 win at the Reale Arena four months earlier.
Flick has expressed the importance of keeping his squad in peak condition as they look to navigate a demanding fixture list, but he was pleased with their performance against Getafe.
"Every three or four days we have a game. We need to look after the players," the German said. "We played a fantastic match last Sunday, and also against Newcastle. That's what I want to see from my team."
