Honolulu, Hawaii
14-17  January 2021

Vijay Singh will be targeting more success at the Sony Open in Hawaii having won this tournament in 2005.

The Fijian superstar hammered a 300-yard drive on the par-5 closing hole to set up a routine birdie from the edge of the green, giving him a 5-under 65 and a one-shot victory 16 years ago.

At the age of 57, Singh is one of the oldest players on the PGA Tour and he has won 34 events including three major championships.

Singh clinched the Masters Tournament title in 2000 and has also lifted two PGA Championship titles in 1998 and 2004.

The man nicknamed the Big Fijian held number one in the Official World Golf Ranking for 32 weeks in 2004 and 2005.

Singh, who had a rivalry with Tiger Woods in the past, was the 12th man to reach the world number one-ranking and he was the only new world number one in the 2000s decade.

The Big Fijian was the leading PGA Tour money winner in 2003, 2004 and 2008 and he was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2006.

The last time Singh won a PGA Tour competition was in 2008 when he clinched the Deutsche Bank Championship and he has now set his sights on the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Singh, who is currently ranked 1200 on the Official World Golf Rankings, revealed how he plans to improve his game in order to return to the top.

"That was always my goal, and I got there to a point. It’s all in my head. My whole thought has been a left-to-right shot. I’m aiming left so I don’t want to miss left," Vijay said.

"You have to be very aggressive with your left side. Your left side has to be really strong from the ground up and be left-side oriented. I’m very left-sided.

"When I’m coming down to hit the ball, I really have to focus on pulling really hard with the left hand. That used to be second nature for me," he added.

"When you start to lose your distance and try to engage more power, what happens? If you’re a right-handed golfer, your right side is stronger than your left and that’s what started to happen to me.

"When I was in my prime, I was really focused and everything was left-handed."
