Spurs geared for Burnley challenge

2019/20 Premier League

Round 16

7-9 December 2019

Tottenham Hotspur will be geared for the challenge of hosting a gritty and determined Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday 7 December 2019, kick-off at 15:00. The match is one of 10 spread from 7-9 December in the 16th round of the current Premier League season.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche

Tottenham suffered their first defeat under new manager Jose Mourinho when they lost 2-1 at Manchester United in midweek. Spurs put in a disjointed effort at Old Trafford to suffer a fifth league loss of the season and find themselves nine points off the pace of the top four.

"We didn't lose because of an attacking set up, we lost because we approached the game in an emotional way,” said Mourinho, who will be eager to see his side get back to winning ways this coming weekend.

Burnley were outclassed at home in midweek, slumping to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City. The Clarets have lost five of their last seven Premier League outings and need to be careful not to slip into a relegation scrap.

Manager Sean Dyche said his team had "made a few mistakes lately, against the big guns, that we can't make again" and added, “Whoever beats you it's frustrating. It's been a tough week."

Tottenham striker Harry Kane

In head-to-head stats, Tottenham and Burnley have met in 83 previous matches. Spurs have claimed 32 wins compared to 31 for the Clarets, while 20 games have been drawn.

The teams’ two Premier League meetings last season both produced home wins: Spurs claimed a 1-0 triumph at Wembley Stadium in December 2018, while the return game at Turf Moor was won 2-1 by Burnley in February 2019.
