The Bundesliga Returns!

The winter break is over and the Bundesliga is finally returning to our screens this weekend bringing with it the pride, passion and footballing greats that make up one of the best leagues in the world.

With 39 points and just one loss this season, you would think that Bayern Munich would be running away with the title already. The opposite is, in fact, true as Bundesliga newcomers RB Leipzig hope to continue their pursuit of glory in the German top division. Leipzig have lost just twice this season and have managed an impressive 11 wins from their opening 16 games played before the winter break.  With both losses coming in the final 3 games of the first half of the season, the break may have come at the perfect time for Leipzig who were clearly in need of a breather to get their heads around their fairytale beginning to life in the top-flight.  Questions continue to be asked whether they can keep up with an on-form Bayern side who will not go down without an all-out war.

Arguably an even bigger surprise, Borussia Dortmund were forced into the winter break with 27 points after just 7 wins from the opening 16 games. Dortmund’s unconvincing start has left them in 6th position and 12 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. The noisy North Germans drew 3 games in a row before the break and are going to need to drastically improve on their recent form if they want to climb the table to meet up with their bitter rivals at the top. Dortmund have played a host of club friendlies in the build up to the resumption of the Bundesliga, winning all 3 of them convincingly against some testing opponents.

The weekend kicks off on Friday evening with Bayern travelling to Freiburg in a game they are expected to win which will extend their lead at the top to 6 points should Leipzig lose on Saturday when they host 4th position Eintracht Frankfurt who are 7 points back. Dortmund, on the other hand, travel to a struggling Werder Bremen side who have won just 4 games this season. Bremen are way down in 15th position but are more than capable of a good result at home so this could be a tough test for Dortmund.

Whatever the results, we are beyond excited to have the Bundesliga back and cannot wait to see how the second half of the season pans out.
