Tottenham Hotspur welcome West Ham United to Wembley Stadium on Wednesday in their last-16 Carabao Cup clash in what should prove to be another epic London derby between the two sides.

Tottenham vs West Ham

Carabao Cup Round of 16

Wednesday, October 25th
Wembley Stadium, London
Kick-off at 19:45 (7:45pm) GMT

Mauricio Pochettino’s men will be in buoyant mood ahead of the visit of West Ham. They finally put their Premier League Wembley hoodoo to rest when they dispatched of Liverpool in the grandest of fashion. Harry Kane scored twice in a stunning 4-1 win to take his tally to 17 goals in 17 games for club and country since the start of September and will be eager to get off the mark in the League Cup after he was rested in the last round. The weekend’s victory over the Reds saw Spurs, in third, close the gap between themselves and Man United in second. The pair now sit level on points, five behind Man City at the summit, ahead of their monstrous meeting at Old Trafford in Saturday’s lunch-time kick-off. Since defeat to Chelsea back in August, Spurs have gone 11 games unbeaten in all competitions, a run which includes impressive results against Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid in the Champions League as well as their 1-0 win over Barnsley in the previous round of the League Cup courtesy of Dele Alli’s second half strike.

Tottenham Recent Results: (last seven in all competitions)

22/10/2017 – Tottenham 4-1 Liverpool
17/10/2017 – Real Madrid 1-1 Tottenham
14/10/2017 – Tottenham 1-0 Bournemouth
30/09/2017 – Huddersfield 0-4 Tottenham
26/09/2017 – APOEL 0-3 Tottenham
23/09/2017 – West Ham 2-3 Tottenham
19/09/2017 – Tottenham 1-0 Barnsley

The Hammers have been a mixed bag so far in 2017/18 and despite some positive results, they haven’t managed to string even a pair of wins together and find themselves lurking precariously above the Premier League relegation zone in 16th place. Slaven Bilic will be feeling the heat ahead of the trip across the capital following Friday night’s 3-0 defeat at home at the hands of newly promoted Brighton and Hove Albion. That was their fifth defeat in eleven games in all competitions this season and the East London side will be hoping for some sort of a run in the recently renamed Carabao Cup to improve their league form and lift the mood of the fans. West Ham entered the League Cup in the second round and have since recorded victories over Cheltenham Town and Bolton Wanderers, scoring five goals and conceding none. A positive result in reaching the quarter-finals on Wednesday will certainly help ease the pressure on the Hammers boss as they push for a first cup final appearance since 2006.

West Ham Recent Results: (last seven in all competitions)

20/10/2017 – West Ham 0-3 Brighton
14/10/2017 – Burnley 1-1 West Ham

16/09/2017 – West Brom 0-0 West Ham
11/09/2017 – West Ham 2-0 Huddersfield

The pair have exchanged blows when they’ve met in the league in the last couple of seasons, each victorious over the other within the comforts of their home grounds before Spurs bucked that recent trend when they came away from the London Stadium with all three points as recently as last month. West Ham are no strangers to the struggles of moving to a new stadium, since they said goodbye to Upton Park and became the new tenants of the 2016 Olympic Stadium, as Spurs have experienced playing at Wembley while White Hart Lane is being redeveloped. The last time the sides faced outside of the league was in the last-eight of the League Cup in 2013 when Matt Jarvis and Modibo Maiga struck in the final 10 minutes to secure a 2-1 away win for the Hammers over Spurs after Emmanuel Adebayor had put the Lily Whites in front midway through the second half.
