Valentino Rossi will be looking to build on his momentum when Round 3 of the 2019
Moto GP season takes place at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin on Sunday 14 April.
The veteran Yamaha rider opened his 2019 season with a moderate fifth place finish at the campaign-opener in Qatar, but in the previous round in Argentina he returned to peak form with a second-placed finish.
This has left the 40-year-old in third place on the riders’ championship standings (behind Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso) as he chases an elusive eighth premier class title (and a first since 2009).
Yet Rossi will have to ride out of his skin to defeat Marquez this weekend, with the Spaniard boasting a 100 percent win record at the Circuit of the Americas (six wins from as many races, stretching back to 2013).
And Rossi’s teammate Maverick Vinales will be eager to show his speed and move up the standings, having thus far underwhelmed with a seventh-place finish in Qatar and retirement in Argentina.
The Yamahas are likely to be chasing the shadow of Marquez on Sunday, but a strong haul of points for the manufacturer and team championships will still be up for grabs.
