Xander Schauffele will be on the hunt for a tournament victory at the PGA Tour’s 2021 Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club, Pacific Palisades, California from 18 to 21 February.

The 27-year-old Californian native has been in outstanding form of late, narrowly missing out on winning the Phoenix Open earlier this month, where he was beaten by one shot by fellow American Brooks Koepka.

Schauffele has struggled with leading the pack heading into the final round, preferring to be the hunter rather than the hunted in the closing stages of the tournament, but he is committed to improving his all-round game and bettering his Genesis Invitational performance from 2020, where he shot 280 (-4) and finished tied for 23rd.

“I think Brooks is a great example for me,” said Schauffele. “He hasn't been in great form, missed a few cuts, and comes out and wins. There is a lot to be said by his actions and how he played. There is a reason he's knocked off a bunch of majors. That's something I'm trying to do. I need to learn from a recipe like his.

“I'm disappointed. Winning is tough. I'll lick my wounds and come back. It was a good day to learn from some mistakes. Have to continue to stay patient until I can win again. Overall I'm playing really well, and I don't see why I can't knock over a win soon.”

That win could well arrive at the Genesis Invitational, though the challenge of joining winners at Riviera such as Adam Scott, JB Holmes, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson will be a mental hurdle for Schauffele to get over – if he can do it, then it could well be the springboard for him to go on and become the world’s top golfer.
