Cameron Smith will be seeking redemption when he competes at the 2022 Masters Tournament as he makes his sixth appearance in the event.

The Australian star came close to winning this tournament in 2020 as he finished second behind champion Dustin Johnson.

Smith, who turned professional in 2013, also became the first golfer in Masters history to shoot all four rounds in the 60s (67-68-69-69).

The Brisbane-born golfer has been in good form in 2022 having won the Sentry Tournament of Champions ahead of the world number one Jon Rahm in January.

Smith shot a PGA Tour record of 34 under par winning by one stroke and the 34 under par beat the previous mark of 31 under par set by Ernie Els at the same tournament in 2003.

The five-time PGA Tour winner then won The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, by one shot from Anirban Lahiri, becoming the fifth Australian to win the tournament.

His performances have elevated him to the sixth spot on the Official World Golf Rankings and he has a good record at Augusta where he has three top-10s in his last four starts.

"I felt as though one of these big ones was the next step for me. I've knocked on the door a few times and I just felt like it was my time," Smith said after winning The Players Championship.

"I hit a lot of quality golf shots and didn't really back down and just kept trying to make birdies. I felt really comfortable on the range with my irons, and I knew if I could somehow get it in the fairway.

"I felt it was mine to win from the start. I feel really comfortable on the greens around here, so I just needed to get it on the fairway, and if I could do that, then I knew I had a red-hot chance," he added.

"Was able to do that a little bit on the front nine at least, and then kind of got a bit wavy there at the end."
