Charles Leclerc in line for first career win?

2019 Formula 1 season, Round 9

Austrian Grand Prix

Red Bull Ring, Spielberg
Sunday 30 June

Charles Leclerc could be in line for his first career Formula 1 win when the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg is held on Sunday 30 June.

The Ferrari driver has been in solid form of late, registering back-to-back third-place finishes at the Canadian Grand Prix and French Grand Prix through his month.

Leclerc has registered back-to-back podium finishes.

While all of the media’s scrutiny has focused on the controversy surrounding Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel, Leclerc has quietly and efficiently got on with his job.

He is now just 13 points off fourth-placed Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship standings and beginning to really justify Ferrari’s gamble to give him a drive in one of the top teams in just his second F1 campaign.

The Ferrari driver may have a shot a his first career win this weekend.

Best of all for the Monegasque, the Red Bull Ring is a fast and flowing circuit on which his car should be a contender for the victory. If he can eliminate any errors in qualifying and put himself high up the grid, Leclerc could be a genuine contender for victory.

However, the promising youngster must be wary of the consistency of rivals Mercedes, as well as a Red Bull team which will be desperate to perform strongly at their home race.
