NBA Regular Season

Sunday 2 May 2021
Staples Center, Los Angeles, California
Tip-off at 04:00 CAT

The Los Angeles Clippers and the Denver Nuggets will renew their rivalry with an NBA Regular Season clash at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on the morning of Sunday 2 May 2021. Tip-off is at 04:00 CAT.

The Clippers look set for a top-four finish in the Western Conference and showed their powers of recovery this past weekend, overcoming an 11-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat the Houston Rockets 109-104 and continue building momentum at just the right time.

"We just had to stay with it," shooting guard Paul George said. "Not every game is going to be perfect, and that third quarter was an indication of that. We just couldn't make a shot. As a team, we didn't have a rhythm, we missed a lot of shots and turned the ball over a lot. It was just a flat quarter for us."

The Nuggets have also been strong performers in the Western Conference, though they have started to suffer with a build-up of injuries: guard Will Barton is out indefinitely after suffering a hamstring injury, while star man Jamal Murray suffered a season-ending knee injury earlier this month.

Nonetheless, Denver put in a strong showing this past weekend to down the Rockets 129-116, with Michael Porter Jr. scoring a career-high 39 points.

"I was really pleased offensively," Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. "We came from a game where the ball wasn't moving a whole lot [118-97 loss at Golden State]. It was kind of being held and we didn't make the defense work for us. [Against the Rockets], we had 36 assists — that's a great number for us. Getting one win in this league is hard. I've said that before and I'm happy we got it."

In head-to-head stats, the Clippers and the Nuggets have met in 180 Regular Season games since 1976-77, with Denver claiming 98 wins compared to 82 for Los Angeles. The teams last met in the Regular Season in early April 2021, with the Nuggets winning 101-94 away thanks to 23 points from Jamal Murray.
