Los Angeles Lakers are looking to make history by defeating Miami Heat in the 2020 National Basketball Association (NBA) championship.

The Lakers have a chance to become only the second team to win 17 NBA titles and join Boston Celtics, who are the most decorated team in the history of the competition.

They clinched their first playoff berth since the 2012/13 season in March 2020 before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After play resumed in the bio-bubble, the Lakers clinched both their first Pacific Division title since 2012 and the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs for the first time since the 2009/10 season.

Lebron James, the Lakers small forward, is grateful to Heat coach Erik Spoelstra as he looks to lead his side to their 17th NBA title.

“I’ve played with some great teammates and some great coaching staffs," James said.

"From T-Lue [Tyronn Lue] and his coaching staff to Erik Spoelstra and his coaching staff, and now this coaching staff with Frank Vogel.

“I’m blessed. I’m truly blessed. They have all allowed me to be me. They have allowed me to go out and do the things that I do on the floor. Use my mind, my play and be able to command my teammates the way I do.”

The Lakers needed five games each to defeat the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the playoffs and the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

Before defeating Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals to reach their 33rd NBA Finals.

The Lakers are expected to pin their hopes on three-time NBA champion James, who is one of the greatest basketball players of all-time.

The 35-year-old has won two Player of the Month awards in the Western Conference this season and he has what it takes to inspire the Lakers to a series win over his former side Heat.
