The 2019 Madrid Open will be played at the Park Manzanares in Spain between 6 and 14 May. 
 
It is a joint men's and women's professional tennis tournament, held in Madrid, during early May. 
 
The clay court event is classified as an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 on the Association of Tennis Professionals tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the Women's Tennis Association tour.

Petra Kvitova will be the defending champion having won last year's tournament after defeating Netherlands' Kiki Bertens in the final.
 
The Czech is likely to face stiff competition from the likes of Simona Halep of Romania and Russian star Maria Sharapova.

Top female tennis players use the Madrid Open as preparation for the upcoming French Open, which is a major tournament. 
 
This year's competition will take place between 26 May and 9 June at the Ronald Garros in Paris.
