The curtain came down on the 2016/17 Premier League season on Sunday, with champions Chelsea claiming a record 30th win as they crushed Sunderland 5-1 at home.
It has been a brilliant campaign for manager Antonio Conte and his Blues team, with a switch to a 3-4-3 formation (following chastening losses to Liverpool and Arsenal early in the season) sparking an unstoppable run to the title.
Spare a thought for runners-up Tottenham Hotspur, who ended the season with superior records in terms of both goals scored and conceded compared to Chelsea, but were a full seven points off the pace of the leaders.
The race for the Champions League places saw Manchester City finish third and Liverpool fourth, meaning Arsenal miss out on the premier continental competition for the first time in the long reign of manager Arsene Wenger - and that’s despite winning their last five league matches in succession.
Manchester United came home in a disappointing sixth place, though they could yet salvage their season by winning the UEFA Europa League. The final against Ajax takes place on Wednesday, with the winners securing a place in next season’s Champions League.
Down at the bottom of the log, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Hull City were relegated. They will be replaced for next season by Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and the Championship playoff winners - either Huddersfield Town or Reading, who will meet next week Monday.
