2021 MotoGP World Championship leader Fabio Quartararo will look to bounce back from a disappointing last outing when Round 14, the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix, is held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Sunday 19 September.

Quartararo could only manage an eighth-place finish at the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain this past weekend, with the result seeing his lead at the top of the Riders’ Championship standings cut to 53 points by race winner and nearest chaser Francesco Bagnaia of Lenovo Ducati (it was a first MotoGP career win for the Italian, who held off a strong challenge from Marc Marquez).

Reigning World Champion Joan Mir of Ecstar Suzuki is just four points further back. Frenchman Quartararo still has firm control at the top of the table, but was unhappy with the way his bike, and specifically the tyres, performed at Aragon.

“After the warm-up I expected myself to fight for the podium because I felt I had something really good, with old tyres I was feeling great and with 26 laps on the tyre I could manage great,” Quartararo said.

“From the beginning of the race my rear was not working as normal. I went down, down, down [the order]. The only positive thing of the day is that I fight for my position, I was fighting, I didn’t give up, even if it was for seventh, eighth, ninth position. I fought until the end, so that’s something positive.”

The Yamaha man will hope for a return to winning form at the San Marino GP, having already claimed victories in Doha, Portugal, Italy (Mugello), the Netherlands and Great Britain so far in the 2021 campaign.
