Rory McIlroy will be hoping to end his long wait for another golf major by winning the
US Open title this week (17-20 September).
The Northern Irish golfer has failed to win a golf major since clinching the 2014 PGA Championship which was his fourth major title.
However, McIlroy remains amongst the best golfers on the planet and he is currently placed fourth on the Official World Golf Rankings.

McIlroy clinched his first and only US Open title in 2011 with his 8-stroke margin of victory over 2nd-place finisher Jason Day.
The Holywood-born golfer set several records in his win, most notably, his 72-hole aggregate score of 268 (16-under) was a new US Open record.
The 268 aggregate beat the previous record of 272 held by Jack Nicklaus (Baltusrol, 1980), Lee Janzen (Baltusrol, 1993), Tiger Woods (Pebble Beach, 2000), and Jim Furyk (Olympia Fields, 2003).
While the 16-under in relation to par beat Woods' 12 under at Pebble Beach Golf Links in 2000.

McIlroy, who along with Nicklaus and Woods, he is one of three players to win four majors by the age of 25, has reflected on his successful career ahead of the US Open
“If I can’t be content and happy right now, I don’t think I’ll ever be,” McIlroy said.
“It’s awesome. It’s the best part of life. I sometimes think everything that has happened to me on the golf course
"And off the golf course has already been beyond my wildest dreams, and sometimes I have to sort of pinch myself and sort of ask, ‘Why me? Why am I so lucky?'”
The 2020 US Open offers a $12.5 million purse with a winner's share of $2.25 million.
