The Valencian Grand Prix was won by Yamaha's Franco Morbidelli with Jack Miller of Ducati finishing second.

KTM rider Pol Espargaro secured a third spot finish in an enthralling race, but he remained seventh on the riders' standings.

Mir is placed at the top of the riders' standings and he is followed by Morbidelli and Rins respectively.

Rins is only four points behind Morbidelli heading into this weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix which will be crucial.

The 24-year-old congratulated his teammate Mir on winning the championship and he indicated that he is looking to finish the season on a high.

“In the end, I wasn’t able to get the title, but I’m so happy for Joan and all of Team Suzuki. It’s incredible that he won the championship in only his second year," Rins said.

"the entire team have worked so hard to achieve this. So the feeling is amazing, even for me. “Today Franco [Morbidelli] had a very strong pace and the best I could do was 4th.

"But I’m still fighting to get second place in the standings, so I’m happy with the result. I’m hoping to finish the season on a high when we go to Portimao."

Suzuki are placed at the top of Manufacturers' Championship standings, but they are level on points with second-placed Ducati (201).

Yamaha are placed third with 188 points with one crucial race left this term.
