Villarreal are hot on the heels of Atletico Madrid for third position in the Spanish La Liga as the Yellow Submarines look ahead to another crucial league fixture against Alaves at Estadio de Mendizorroza on Friday.
As it stands, Villarreal are in fourth position after amassing 54 points after 27 matches played. Villarreal are currently level on points with Atletico Madrid who are in third, separated only by goal difference.
Villarreal will head into Friday’s fixture on the back of a 2-1 home win against Elche, a game that took place at Estadio de la Cerámica this past Sunday. The popular La Liga outfit recorded three wins in their last five league ties, suffering losses against Getafe and Barcelona during this period.
Alaves face a different prospect regarding the standings; they are in 16th place after noting 27 points from 27 games.
Sitting just two points above the drop zone, Alaves suffered a 3-2 defeat against Valencia last time out, recording three losses and two draws in their previous handful of La Liga fixtures.

In addition to their lofty position on the table, Villarreal have been boosted by the performances of Georges Mikautadze during the last month; he was recently named La Liga Player of the Month for February.
“The Villarreal No.9 was one of the most decisive players of the month, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the last four matches against RCD Espanyol, Getafe CF, Levante UD and Valencia CF,” Villareal confirmed.
“His involvement and leadership in the Yellows attack have been key in helping the team maintain a high competitive rhythm in the second half of the season.
“The Yellows forward is enjoying an excellent run of form and, so far this campaign, has already recorded eight goals and four assists, numbers that underline his direct influence in the Yellow Submarine’s attacking play.”
